Requirements
Both for
electical engineering and software engineering students:
There will be 2 midterm tests (planned for the 7th
and 13th weeks, and a repeated test for each on the 14th week) and a
small
test on
the beginning of every Monday lesson except the first week and the
weeks of the midterm
tests.
Every small test will consist of a problem similar to one of the
homework
problems and/or of a "theoretical" question to be answered by words or
by some formula or figure, etc. Students who are late or absent get 0
points.
No make-up tests will be offered for the small tests. In order to be
accepted in the course students must be present at least at 70% of the lessons
(this
means that
the number of absences must be less than 8). Students being late 5, 10, 15,
... minutes at a
lesson lose 10, 20, 30 ... % of their presence of that
lesson. Students who have a total absence more than 8.0 lessons will
not be allowed to take part at any of the later tests or exams, and
will be refused to get a midterm grade or signature or final grade.
For electrical
engineering students:
In order to pass
the
course, electrical engineering students must have a
result at
least 50% on both midterm tests. If they satisfy these requirements,
then the average of the percentages of the 7 best small tests is
calculated. Then
the AVERAGE of the three main components (two midterm results and
the average of
the 7 best small test results) is calculated. The midterm grade for the course depends on
this AVERAGE: from 50% the grade is
2, from
64% the grade is 3, from 77% the grade is 4, from
90% the grade is 5.
Students who - according to these
rules -
do not pass have one more chance: a comprehensive extra test (they have
to pay
for it) during the week right after the 14th week. The topic of this
extra test
is the material of the whole semester. Based only on the result of this
test,
the grade is given by the same rule as above: from 50% the
grade is 2, from 64% the grade is 3, from
77% the
grade is 4, from 90% the grade is 5.
For software engineering
students:
In order to get the signature for the midterm work, software engineering
students must
have an AVERAGE
of the three main components (two midterm results and
the average of
the 7 best small test results)
at least 40%. Students
who according to this
rule
do not get the signature have one more chance to get it: a
comprehensive extra test (they have
to pay
for it) during the week right after the 14th week. The topic of this
extra test
is the material of the whole semester. Based only on the result of this
test,
the signature is given if 40% on this test is achieved. Software engineering
students may take
the final exam only if they have the
signature. The final exam is a comprehensive written exam consisting of 6 problems. Each
problem is worth 10 points. The grade for the exam is 1, if the final
exam result is worse than 50%. Otherwise it is calculated so that the
final exam result in percentages is taken with a weight of 2/3 and the
midterm result in percentages
is taken with a weight of 1/3 percentages and then from 50% the
grade is 2, from 64% the grade is 3, from
77% the
grade is 4, from 90% the grade is 5.
Attention! The small
tests may improve or worsen
the AVERAGE effectively! If the midterm test results are, for example, 45% and 60%, and
the average of
the percentages of the 7 best small tests is 90%, then the AVERGE of them
is 65%. However, if the the
average of the percentages of the 7 best small tests is - as an extremity! - 0%,
then the AVERGE of them is only 35%, which means a failure!)
