An anecdote on Dénes Kõnig told by his student, Peter Lax, and published by Harold W. Kuhn: The German version of the famous dictum "In mathematics there is no royal road" is: "In der Mathematik gibt kein Königsweg". Someone quoted this to Dénes by way of teasing him, to which he replied: "Aber es gibt ein Grafenweg". (the word "Graf" also means the aristocraric title "count".)
