Részletek az MTA Elnökének, Vizi E. Szilveszternek Prof. Gromov-hoz írt leveléből:

Dear Professor Gromov,

It is my privilege to inform you that the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has awarded you the

János Bolyai International Mathematical Prize

for your book
"Metric structures for Riemannian and non-Riemannian spaces" published by Birkhäuser Boston, Inc., Boston, MA, 1999.

This Prize was founded in 1902 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of János Bolyai. It was first granted to Henri Poincare in 1905 and then to David Hilbert in 1910. Unfortunately, this highly prestigous Prize has been awarded again only in 2000, when the Presidency of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences reestablished it. Saharon Shelah was then granted. An International Selection Committee is dedicated to select the winner as the author of the most significant mathematical monograph of the last decade. Upon its decision we are ready to honor you with this Prize. We intend to present the Prize to you in a ceremony held on
November 4, 2005 on the occasion of the Feast of Hungarian Science at the Main Building of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Budapest, Roosevelt tér 9, 1051 Hungary). I strongly hope that this date is convenient for you...

The organizer of the event, the Section for Mathematics of the Academy would highly appreciate if, after receiving the Prize, you could give a one hour talk on a subject of your choice to a basically mathematician audience. Let us know the title of your talk at your earliest convenience. The Department takes care of your expenses during your stay in Budapest...

Let me be first to congratulate you and wish you further success and good health....
