The Presidium

I. a megújított Bolyai-díj szabályzatát a következők szerint hagyja jóvá:

I. hereby approves the rules and regulations of the renewed Bolyai-prize with the following conditions:

1. A Bolyai-díjat a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia 1996-ban, és azután minden ötödik évben újra kiadja, a megelőző tíz* évben bárhol és bármilyen nyelven megjelent legkiválóbb, áttörő jelentőségű, saját új eredményeket, módszereket bemutató matematikai monográfia szerzőjének, tekintetbe véve a szerző előző tudományos munkásságát is.

1. The Bolyai-prize will be granted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences first in 1996, then in every 5th year to the author of the most excellent, pioneering monograph published in the preceding 10* years anywhere, in any language, containing own results and/or methods in the field of mathematics. Previous scientific achievements of the author should also be taken into account.

2. A díj aranyéremből áll. Az érem egyik oldalát az Akadémia és Budapest képe, másik oldalát a "Bolyai-díj" felirat, évszám, és a díjazott neve díszíti.

2. The prize consists of a golden medal. An image of the Academy and of Budapest are on one side of the medal. There is the text "Bolyai-díj" (Bolyai-prize in Hungarian), year and name of the awardee on the other side.

3. A díj átadása az Akadémia Matematikai Tudományok Osztályának nyilvános ülésén történik, esetlegesen nagyobb számú résztvevőt mozgósító nemzetközi rendezvény alkalmával, ehhez kapcsolódva.

3. The prize is presented within the frame of either an open assembly of the Section of Mathematics (Mathematical Sciences Section) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, or an international function involving a wider audience.

4. A díj odaítélése előtt egy évvel az Akadémia Matematikai Tudományok Osztálya öt rendes** tagból és öt kiemelkedő külföldi matematikusból álló bizottságot választ és kijelöli annak elnökét.*** A bizottság a díj átadása előtt legkésőbb három hónappal jelentést tesz döntéséről az osztályelnöknek. A bizottság tagjai közül maga választja meg előadóját, aki a díj átadásakor részletesen ismerteti a díjazott munkásságát, és erről írásbeli jelentést készít. Az elnök a bizottságban szintén szavaz, és szavazategyenlőség esetén szavazatával dönt.

4. One year before the granting of the prize, the Section of Mathematics (Mathematical Sciences Section) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences appoints a committee of 5 ordinary** members and 5 internationally recognized mathematicians and assigns its chair.*** The committee reports on its decision to the head of the at least 3 months in advance of the ceremony. The committee nominates its reader from its members, who reads the detailed achievements (laudatum) of the awardee at the ceremony. He/she also prepares a written report. The chair of the committee also votes in the committee, his/her vote determines the result in case of a tie of votes.

5. A bizottsági tagok munkái a díj szempontjából nem vehetők tekintetbe.

5. Members of the committee cannot be considered to become awardees.

6. A bizottság általában levelezés útján dönt; szükség esetén azonban Magyarországon ülést tart. A díj odaítélésével és átadásával kapcsolatban felmerülő költségeket az Akadémia fedezi. Az előadói jelentés tiszteletdíja 500 dollár.

6. The committee communicates and makes decisions usually by correspondence. If necessary, it assembles in Hungary. Expenses related to the decision making and the presentation of the prize are covered by the Academy. The reader gets 500 USD for his/her presentations.

7. A bizottság jelentése az Akadémiai Értesítőben jelenik meg. A díjazott munkásságának részletes ismertetése az Acta Mathematica Hungarica-ban kerül publikálásra.

7. The report of the committee is published in the "Akadémiai Értesítő" (Bulletin of the Academy in Hungarian). The detailed presentation of the achievements of the awardee is published in Acta Mathematica Hungarica.

II. jóváhagyta, hogy amennyiben az anyagi fedezet biztosítható, a díjhoz 25e USD összegű "Bolyai-jutalom" is járul;

II. hereby approves that it adds a "Bolyai-jutalom" (Bolyai-gift in Hungarian) to the prize in an amount of 25,000 USD should the necessary financial background be available;

III. felkéri a főtitkárt, hogy a 1995. évi költségvetési tervezet pályadíjak címszó alatti előirányzata tartalmazza a Bolyai-díj anyagi fedezetét is;

III. hereby appoints the General Secretary of the Academy to earmark the financial background of the prize in the budgetary plan for 1995 under the entry of awards;

IV. tudomásul veszi, hogy az anyagi fedezet megteremtése az állami költségvetés függvénye.

IV. recognises that the financial background of the prize is a function of the Academy’s yearly budget.

* A Matematikai Tudományok Osztálya 2008. november 26-i ülésén úgy döntött, hogy javasolja az Elnökségnek a "tíz" helyett a "tizenöt" évet.

** A Matematikai Tudományok Osztálya 2008. november 26-i ülésén úgy döntött, hogy javasolja az Elnökségnek a "rendes" törlését.

*** A Matematikai Tudományok Osztálya 2008. november 26-i ülésén úgy döntött, hogy javasolja az Elnökségnek a következő mondat beszúrását: "A bizottság titkára lehet doktor."

* The assembly of the Section of Mathematics (Mathematical Sciences Section) on 26 November 2008 decided to propose "15" instead of "10" to the Presidium.

** The assembly of the Section of Mathematics (Mathematical Sciences Section) on 26 November 2008 decided to propose the deletion of "ordinary" to the Presidium.

*** The assembly of the Section of Mathematics (Mathematical Sciences Section) on 26 November 2008 decided to propose the insertion of the sentence "The secretary of the committee must be at least a doctor of the Academy." to the Presidium.
